Roberta Badger-Cain![]() ShRoberta Badger-Cain is involved in a number of social, economic, environmental, and racial justice issues, groups, and organizations. Strike Debt Portland: Roberta has been involved in from the beginning over five years ago. She has written the application forms for the Strike Debt Scholarship program currently with local high schools.
She is the originator of the 2019 Reverse Scholarship program with the goal of stopping the garnishment of social security and disability checks by the government for student dept loans. Low income people who have had this happen to them will be eligible to receive a "scholarship" in the form of a check from Strike Debt Portland. This event will be publicized to build awareness of the garnishment of fixed income individuals. See more under the heading of Scholarships on the bar above. She is also Chair of several groups at First Presbyterian Church, Portland, including Advocacy & Social Justice, the Fair Trade Table, and the Racial Understanding Book Group. Roberta enjoys lobbying for justice, daily walks rain or shine, and writing poetry. |
Sandra Decker
Sandra Decker was a member of the SF Bay Area Strike Debt for three years. She participated in three Debtors Assemblies while there and found the experience very useful in learning to live without debt. She also worked with them to promote a City Bank of Oakland which is nearing a reality. As a part of Strike Debt Portland for three years, she started our scholarship program which has helped to educate graduating high school students about student debt in 2017-18; educating seniors about federal college debt being taken from social security checks in 2019; and now giving scholarships in 2020 to homeless people rebuilding their lives. In her spare time Sandra sings with the Portland Raging Grannies,hangs out with the Democratic Socialists of America and is a Union Member with SEIU 503. She is also active with the Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET). . |
David Delk
David Delk is the President of the Alliance for Democracy, on the board of Oregon Unitarian Universalist Voices for Justice, and founded both Move to Amend PDX and Portland Public Banking Alliance. See more about work on a Portland Public Bank under ABOUT on the bar above.
David's central concern is the nation's and the world's ever increasing inequality. He works extensively on enacting limits on money in politics, believing that money does not equal speech. David has recently returned to Portland from Astoria.He remains as a consultant for Strike Debt Portland website. |
